Silver dials for the silver screen – Replica IWC Schaffhausen has announced a limited edition version of its Portugieser Hand-Wound Eight Days for the BFI London Film Festival 2015, which runs from 7-18 October.
IWC began its sponsorship of the festival last year, and will also be auctioning a one-off platinum version of its new Portugieser Annual Calendar, with proceeds going to the BFI national Archive.
The special Hand-Wound Eight Days is being produced in a run of 59 individually numbered models, and inscribed on the case-back “BFI Film Forever 2015”. These are available from its New Bond Street boutique and from The Replica Watch Gallery, priced at £8,250.
The auction of the annual calendar, which like the limited edition features a silvered dial and blued hands and markings, is taking place at the BFI’s “Luminous” fundraising gala, held in partnership with IWC, on 6 October at Guildhall.

The brand is well known for its sponsorship of film festivals around the world, including New York’s Tribeca Film Festival (for which it produced a rather nice Portofino earlier this year) and – most recently announced – the Singapore International Film Festival, which will run from 26 November to 6 December.
Earlier this year, IWC overhauled the Portugieser collection in its 75th year of production, reverting from “Portuguese” to the original German spelling. The two limited edition BFI models are both versions of new Breitling replica watches introduced this year as part of that revamp. The first, the Portugieser Annual Calendar, is based on the new 52000 caliber and uses a modular design derived from IWC’s perpetual calendar caliber. The eight days hand-wound anniversary edition, on the other hand, is already a limited edition, harking back to the Portugieser’s original design.
